Scott Williamson

1955 - 2024

Scott Williamson, former director of Blackadders and a member of the High School of Dundee’s Board of Directors, has passed away at the age of 69 after taking ill in his Fife home.

Mr Williamson was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1955 but moved to Oban at a young age for his
father’s work as an officer in the Royal Observer Corps.

He was educated in Oban and at George Heriot’s School in Edinburg, before moving to our city to
study law at the University of Dundee.

Following his graduation, he got job at the Dundee-based law firm Gilruth Pollock and Smith. He was
then seconded to RW Mathewson & Co, before being made partner when the firms merged in 1980.

Further mergers led to him becoming a partner and eventual chairman of Blackadders Solicitors.

After 40 years of service, Mr Williamson retired as a partner amidst the pandemic in 2020, however
he remained on as a consultant at the firm throughout the next two years.

Mr Williamson also had an active life outside of work, engaging with the community in various roles,
including President of the Rotary Club of Dundee, Chairman of the Air Training Corp, President of
Dundee Boys’ Brigade and Lord Dean of Guild.

It was through his position as Lord Dean of Guild that Mr Williamson joined our Board of Directors,
which he served with distinction from 2019 until his death last month.

Although hailing from Newcastle and living in Fife, Mr Williamson always regarded Dundee as his
adopted home city and was proud to be so involved in its community.

His eagerness to help, his expertise, dry wit and keen knowledge of all things military will be dearly
missed by all of us in the High School community. Our deepest condolences are with his wife Dorothy, sister Anne and the wider family.
