Junior Years pupils were delighted to give Wendy Chamberlain a firsthand insight into the UN Rights Respecting Schools Award today.
As part of their efforts to raise awareness of this year’s UNCRC OutRight Campaign – which seeks to empower children to use their voices and become change makers – Pupil Voice group members welcomed the MP for North East Fife into school.
The group give her a presentation on what the award entails, what it means to the pupils and how they enact the UN Rights of the Child every day at school.
Children throughout the Junior Years also had the chance to put questions to Mrs Chamberlain in a Q&A session.
She said, “Thank you to all the staff and students for having me this afternoon.
“It was great to learn more about the UNCRC OutRight campaign, it is a really important campaign and it was fantastic to see how much it means to pupils.
“I really enjoyed answering everyone’s questions on a range of topics from my role in Parliament to how we can make sure children’s voices are heard.”
HSD Junior Years is one of only three primary schools in Dundee to have achieved the Gold award and the children are currently working hard in preparation for an upcoming reaccreditation visit.
